$VANE token

$VANE is the planned token of the Vane protocol. It is not live: there is no token contract and no contract address. This page describes its planned utility; supply, allocation, launch timing, staking and the boost formula are announced at launch.

Planned utility of $VANE#

$VANE has three planned roles. The design is final only at launch.

Boost in the redistribution of forfeited interest#

When a blade is broken, its forfeited interest is shared among every other locked blade in proportion to weight:

weight = principal × boost

Without $VANE staking, the boost is 1. Staking $VANE is planned to increase a depositor's boost and therefore their share of forfeited interest. The boost does not apply to base interest from the yield source, which is always shared pro rata to principal and time locked. The staking mechanics and the boost formula are announced at launch. See How forfeited interest is shared.

Because redistribution depends on other depositors breaking blades, a boost can multiply an amount that is zero. It is not a source of guaranteed income.

Value capture through buy-and-burn#

The protocol fee is taken on interest only, never on principal, when interest is paid at maturity. Fee proceeds fund buy-and-burn of $VANE: the protocol buys $VANE and permanently removes it from circulation. The fee level is announced at launch and is a governance parameter.

Governance of protocol parameters#

$VANE holders are planned to vote on protocol parameters, including:

  • Term length. A change applies to new blades only; existing blades keep their term.
  • Protocol fee level.
  • Supported stablecoins.

Governance activation is planned for the phase after launch; see the Roadmap.

Avoiding fake $VANE tokens#

  • Vane has not announced any sale, presale, airdrop or claim of $VANE. Any such offer made before an announcement on @VaneGiwa (opens in a new tab) is not official.
  • Anyone can deploy a token named VANE. A token's name, symbol or listing proves nothing; only an address announced on @VaneGiwa does.
  • Before launch, this website never requests a transaction or a signature that moves funds. See Phishing and impersonation.
